Most of the people in India can understand Hindi surely then how do Indians understand Sanskrit? hahaha. Most of the misconceptions about Holy Shiv Lingam are spread all over the world that Shiva Linga is a male organ. Most Literate people also accept this blindly. I was shocked that how people are so brainless.
SHIV LINGAM
In Sanskrit the term LINGA means Symbol. Let us see what the scriptures say about the Shiv lingam because scripture is the ultimate truth and Truth is Shiva that’s why SATYAM SHIVAM SUNDARAM. Shiva Lingam is the symbol of Super Shiva and the formless form of lord Shivashakti who is the cause of all causes.
According to ShivaMahapurana, Shiv lingam symbolizes the Nirakar Bharm Swaroop of lord Shiva Shakti. Shiva shakti has two forms first Nishkal which means the formless supreme power the Bharmswaroop which is the cause of all causes and the second is the physical form which is Gauri Shankara. SHIVA LINGAM ACCORDING TO SHIV MAHA PURANA
If you read Shiva Mahapurana in VISHWESHWARA SAMHITA there is a conservation between the Rishis and Sut ji. Rishi asks Sut ji: worshipping idol happy the Gods but Bhagwaan Shiva is worshipped in the form of murti and Linga Why?
Then Sut ji replied: Munishwaro! you have asked a very good question. In this topic, only Lord ShivaShakti is there. not any other man will tell this truth. If we translate it into Hindi it says
EK MATRA SHIVA HI BHARMROOP HONE KE KARN NIRAKAR KAHE GAYE HAI. OR ROOP WAAN HONE KE KARAN UNHE SAKAL BHI KAHA GAYA HAI.
The original form of Shiv shakti is Bharmswaroop (Nirakar or formless) the causes of all causes and when Lord shiva shakti have to do some Leela They appear in Physical form like a Human.
SHIV MAHA PURANA
Shiva Mahapurana also says that the entire movable and immovable world is the form of Bindu (spot) and Nada ( sound). The spot stands for shakti, whereas Shiva stands for Nada ( sound). Therefore, the entire world has the form of Shiva and Shakti. Nada(Sound) is the base of Bindu (spot) and Bindu is the world. Both Nada and Bindu are the base of the world. The Bindu and Nadda are the cause of the entire world.
It also mentions that Linga (in shape) is like the part of a round column rounded at the top and fixed in a raised round base of a particular shape, that is open on the northern side. Since God is beyond Name and form and since we can’t conceive of an abstract principle like him, without the aid of concrete symbols, a rounder surface is perhaps the nearest approach to him. The Puranas indicate the custom of establishing such Lingas as holy. it also establishes the Ishvara at the end for example Sukresvara established by Sukra etc.
