What are 10 Mahavidya in Tantra Shastra?

There are so many people on this earth who would have worshiped Shakti. There are different forms of Shakti like Durga Kali etc. In reality, all the goddesses are the same, the difference is in the shape and depiction.
As if Adyashakti is in darkness then there is Kali and in more darkness there is Tara and if there is most darkness then there is Dhumwati etc.
Thus, kindness also has different forms, while giving love and nurturing, it is called Bhuvaneshwari, Matangi, and Mahalakshmi. Similarly, ten Mahavidyas are worshiped in Shakti Sadhana. All these 10 Mahavidyas are done to gain knowledge and power.
Let me describe them in order:-

  1. Kali
  2. Tara
  3. Tripura – Sundari (Shodashi)
  4. Bhuvaneswari
  5. Tripura Bhairavi
  6. Dhumavati
  7. Chhinnamasta
  8. Bagalamukhi
  9. Matangi
  10. Kamala

There are two clans in this, the Kali clan and the Shri clan. Four are the sadhana of Kali Clan and six are the sadhana of the Shri clan. It is not mandatory for a person to be a Brahmin to do Mahavidya Sadhana. Anyone can practice Mahavidya. There is no difference of caste, class, gender, etc. in this, and is free from all types of restrictions. Bhairav should also be worshiped in all Mahavidyas. Since these are Mahavidyas, their action will also be a bit complicated, hence before starting their sadhana, you must perform Panch Shuddhis.
Place purification, body purification, liquid purification, god purification, and mantra purification.

Importance of initiation (Diksha) in 10 Mahavidya

One should take initiation from a qualified Guru. The meaning of the word initiation is that “one person learned and the other learned properly”, then it is called initiation. Who knows how many initiations take place among all of us in a day? If a Guru blesses you even more, then that Guru imparts some part of his spiritual practice to his disciples.

Diksha also happens in the same way as someone transferring his hard-earned property to someone else. Now it is a different matter what percentage. The Guru explains all the activities during initiation. This can be done through any medium. The Guru provides information about the postures of any Sadhana, Nyas, Yantra Pujan, Mala Pujan, Pran Pratishtha, Panchopachar, etc. He also provides the method by which the Sadhana will be done and if necessary, also provides Yantra, Mala, etc. Only at the time of renunciation of the body can a Guru give all his power to a disciple. If the seeker dedicates himself to the feet of Shri Guru and flows in the stream of yajna-puja for continuous power resources, then nothing remains impossible.

Process
  • First, one’s body is purified and one takes a bath with the help of mantras. The place of worship should also be purified.
  • To purify the body, one should sit on the asana and purify one’s body by doing pranayam and bhoot shuddhi.
  • By consecrating the deity in his body, by doing various types of trusts, etc., he overwhelms his body with the feeling of deity and does the inner work of his deity. This is why it is said in the scriptures that ‘Devam Bhootva Devam Yajet’ i.e. deification is done only by becoming a deity.
  • The meaning of worshiping the deity externally is that the deity is established inside but it is brought outside and worshiped outside also. Like worshiping the deity installed in the instrument etc.
  • After invoking, rituals should be performed through mantra, after this, worshiping the deities present in the Mahavidya Yantra through Panchopachar, Shodashopchar, or sixty-four treatments should be done only after obtaining the permission of the deity installed in it. Then at the last moment, by performing tarpan, considering the havan altar as a deity, worshiping it in the form of fire, and offering different types of liquids, he satisfies it completely. After this, aarti of the deity is performed and floral tributes are offered.
  • After reciting its Kavach-Sahasranamam Stotra etc., one surrenders himself at the feet of the deity. After that, feeling the immersion of the deity, he enshrines the deity in the lotus of his heart and lets the remaining contents flow in some water.

Let us now talk about the mantras of all the ten Mahavidyas in sequence and their effects.

In every kind of sadhana, one should worship the Goddess seated on a lotus for attaining Riddhi Siddhi, obtaining unlimited wealth, destruction of debt, and for the blessings of Mahalakshmi ji. By doing these sadhanas, Indra has maintained heaven till today. To worship them, one should chant at least ten or twenty-one rosary mantras using Kamalgatta rosary.
