Why did Lord Krishna build Dwarka City?
Kansa’s father-in-law and Magadha’s king Jarasandha had to avenge the death of his son-in-law from Shri Krishna, due to which he attacked Mathura 17 times, But every time Lord Krishna defeated him. Even in 17 wars with Jarasandha, Lord Krishna left him every time.
But for the 18th time, Jarasandh was about to attack, but this time a new character enters, namely Kalayavana, which was born as a result of Shiva’s boon.
Who was Kalayavana?
Once At a gathering, a sage was called a eunuch and the name of the sage was Sage Shaisi Shayan. While the sage Shashi Shayan was performing a ritual to achieve a certain accomplishment. The ritual for which he had to observe celibacy for 12 years. But still, this remark pricked him. Then he did a severe penance of Lord Shiva and asked him for a son as a boon.
He said that my future son should be so strong and brave that no weapon can kill him. Chandravanshi and Suryavanshi also could not even kill him.
When the sage was returning after doing penance, he saw a beautiful girl playing with water, which was actually the Apsara Rambha of heaven. The sage gets a son from Rambha, whose name was Ajay, and later he was named Kalayavana.
After her time is over, Rambha returns to heaven. After Rambha’s departure, the sage hands over the son Ajay to Kaal Jung, the king of Malich, who was childless.
Why Did Kalayavan Want to Fight With Lord Krishna?
Once Kalayavana comes to know from Narada Muni that Lord Krishna is the most powerful king in the World, then he wants to fight with them because he always wanted to fight with a king who is equal to him.
Construction of Dwarka City
Kalayavana starts preparing to attack Mathura. Shri Krishna knew that Jarasandha was also going to attack Mathura and this time he would be more aggressive and would not show any mercy to the people of Mathura. This time both Jarasandha and Kalayavan were together. So the crisis increased. If on one side Krishna and Balarama had fought with Kalayavana, on the other side Jarasandha would have attacked his people.
Then Shri Krishna built a fort where no demon could enter. For the construction of the fort, the land was discovered in the middle of the Sea. Then a strong wall spread over 96 square miles was built which was inside the sea. The whole plan behind the construction of the gate was of Vishwakarma Ji. Many big palaces were built in the city of Dwarka of Shri Krishna, which were studded with diamonds, pearls, and gems. Along with this, a lot of streets, roads, gardens, Kalpavriksha, big temples, gates, etc. were built there.
Indra dev sent the famous flower of heaven, Parijat, to plant there, and many such gifts were given by the Gods to Shri Krishna for Dwarka City. Then all the people of Mathura were brought to the city of Dwarka so that they could be kept safe.
So in this way, Lord Shri Krishna built the city of Dwarka for the protection of the people of Mathura.
