Saptapuri refers to Hinduism and the 7 holy cities of India. These include Ayodhya (Rama), Mathura (Krishna), Dwarka (Krishna), Varanasi (Shiva), Haridwar (Vishnu), Ujjain (Shiva), and Kanchipuram (Parvati). According to Sage, these seven cities of Saptapuri also reflect the unity of India despite cultural and linguistic diversity. These seven cities are also connected by roads, railways, and air travel for traffic.

Ayodhya

Ayodhya is one of the oldest cities in India. Also known as Saket, it is also the birthplace of Lord Rama. The city of Ayodhya is situated on the banks of the Sarayu River in Uttar Pradesh and is also one of the seven most sacred pilgrimage centers for Hindus in India.

Mathura

Mathura is also one of the seven holy cities of India, situated near the famous cities of Vrindavan and Govardhan in Uttar Pradesh. The city of Mathura is the birthplace of Lord Krishna and there are many historical events associated with Mathura and nearby villages.

Ujjain


Ujjain, also known as Ujjayini and Avantika, is situated on the banks of Kshipranadi and is also one of the four cities that host the Kumbh Mela. The holy city of Ujjain is home to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga and one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.


Varanasi

Varanasi aka Kashi is one of the oldest and holy cities of India, situated on the banks of river Ganga. Also, Varanasi is called the spiritual capital of India, which is famous for its Ghat temple and music.

Dwarka

Dwarka is also one of the oldest cities in India and is situated in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The holy city of Dwarka is also a part of the Char Dhams, which, apart from Dwarka, include Badrinath, Jagannath Puri, and Rameshwaram.

Haridwar


Haridwar is one of the seven holy places of pilgrimage for Hindus and one of the four places where the Kumbh Mela is organized. Kumbh Mela is organized here on the banks of the river Ganga. Haridwar is an important pilgrimage center, famous for Mansa Devi Temple, Chandi Devi Temple, Maya Devi Temple, and Bharat Mata Temple.

Kanchi

Kanchi aka Kanchipuram, a city situated on the banks of the Vegavathi River in Tamil Nadu, is a holy pilgrimage center and one of the saptapuri cities of India. Kanchipuram is famous for Shivaji and Vaishnava followers, as it has many temples like Kamakshi Amman Temple, Kaulasanathar Temple, Ekambareswarar Temple, and Vaikuntha Perumal Temple are established.
