Rudrabhishek and Jal Abhishek of Lord Shiva
Lord Shiva is called Mahadev, and worshiping him gives very impressive results. But at the same time, it is also important that some special rules should be followed during the worship of Shiva so that the desire or purpose with which we are worshiping is fulfilled and we do not have to be disappointed in life. The most important is to know the proper way of doing Jal Abhishek and Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva.
Jal Abhishek
Shivalinga is seen as a symbol of Lord Shiva on which offering water has its ritual and significance. It is believed that the person who does this with proper rituals and offers water to Lord Shiva with full devotion gets auspicious results. Along with this, happiness, prosperity, and fame also come into his life.
According to Sanatan beliefs, while offering water to Shivlinga, the face of the person should always be towards the south direction…According to the belief, by facing this direction and offering water to Lord Shiva, Lord Shiva gets fulfilled and all the wishes of his devotee are fulfilled.
Rules of Jal Abhishek
Another important thing is that while offering water to Shivling facing south, keep one thing in mind the stream of water should fall from the north.
According to Shiv Purana, when water is offered on Shivalinga, it should not be circumambulated because the water poured on Shivalinga should not be crossed. The person who does this has to incur the wrath of Lord Shiva. Therefore, do not circumambulate after offering water.
According to mythological texts, while offering water to Shivalinga, do not keep your face towards North, West, or East. Lord Shiva’s back and shoulders are in these directions. Doing this deprives you of the fruits of worship.
Never use a copper pot while offering water to Lord Shiva… Also keep in mind that after worshiping, incense sticks or incense should not be kept above the Shivalinga.
Meaning of Rudrabhishek
The literal meaning of Rudrabhishek is – ‘Consecration of Rudra’ i.e. consecration of Lord Shiva who is Rudra i.e. bathing him which is done with many things. For humans, the main purpose of Rudrabhishek is to get relief from all the sorrows because it is written in the scriptures – ‘Rutam-Dukham, Dravayati-NashayatiTirudra’ i.e. Shiva removes all the sorrows and destroys them. It is believed that even the major or inauspicious defects present in the horoscope are removed by performing Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva.
Glory of Rudrabhishek
It is said in the Upanishad that the souls of all the gods reside in Lord Rudra i.e. Shiva. Therefore, by anointing him one gets the same results as by anointing all the gods. The importance of Rudrabhishek increases even more on the day of Shravan Sawan month, Shivratri or Mahashivratri.
When Mother Parvati asked Lord Shiva about the benefits of Rudrabhishek
According to a legend, once Lord Shiva was traveling with his family sitting on a bull. At the same time, when Mother Parvati saw the people involved in Rudrabhishek’s ritual in the mortal world. She asked Lord Shiva, ‘Why do people in the mortal world worship him by performing Rudrabhishek? What benefit does a man get from this? In response, Lord Shiva said, The person who wants to fulfill his wish soon. He anoints me with various types of liquids to get the results of his wishes. The person who performs Abhishekam , I am pleased and quickly grants him the desired results.
